Kids Help Widow and Orphan

My daughter and her husband are in the final stages of adopting a child from Africa. It’s been an exciting ride full of blessings and outpourings of love and help.

Last Saturday was our final fundraising effort. We worked in coordination with Both Hands. The plan is that people sponsor volunteers who work a full Saturday helping fix up a widow’s home. The widow gets her home repaired and the funds raised go to help bring an orphan home.  A great partnership and a great Saturday!

Our team of volunteers spent hours ripping up carpet, spackling holes in the wall, cleaning, scraping, and painting. When we finished, the widow was beyond pleased and so were we.

On our team were kids and teens who worked like machines, willing to do whatever was needed—all the while laughing and joking.  These kids could have spent their Saturday hanging with friends or sleeping in, but instead they jumped in with huge hearts and ready hands to help an elderly woman and a waiting orphan.

Their loving spirit is yet another reason I admire young people.

I’d love to hear about the generous kids and teens in your life. What stories do you have to share?

And as always, thanks for stopping by.

Brenda
