More Amish Stories for You!

Hello Friends!

Greetings from Indiana! We’ve had so much rain lately, I do hope you are staying dry. Between the rain, though, we’ve had real evidence of spring and summer! (My favorites!)

I have a new Amish Romance to share with you! I hope you enjoy it.

Kindle Cover

Here’s the blurb!

Nancy Slagel can barely believe it. She struggles to understand how her own sister could betray her. Mark Lapp was her beau, not Susan’s.

When the chance to escape Linnow Creek appears, Nancy jumps at it. She gladly flees to Hollybrook to become a mother’s helper for her cousin. Maybe there, her broken heart can heal.

But Nancy doesn’t count on inference from Luke Rupp. When he unexpectedly shows up, in her own bedroom, things quickly fall apart. But Luke’s sincere search for his life’s direction resonates with something deep inside Nancy. She can’t help but respect his honest longing, and she finds herself quickly becoming his friend. But Luke seems to want more…

Can Nancy possibly let go of her pain and learn to trust again?

And now this… the shocking death of Issac Zook, her husband. Katie is pregnant and already has one young boy, she also has a struggling business and a mountain of debt. Samuel Schrock was an Amish man with an eye for an easy profit and he sees Katie as an ideal target. However, Jacob, the bishop’s son steps in to protect his best friend’s widow. When a figure from the past turns up on Katie’s door it opens a whole new world of turmoil and confusion.

Stolen Amish Baby
Gabrielle Troyer was a new widow, but at least she had finally been blessed by God and had her baby to remember her loving husband by. But things were about to get worse for Gabby….much worse. A heartbreaking story of faith, fear, guilt, love and forgiveness. Can the Amish and Englisch communities come together and find Gabby’s stolen Amish Baby?

A Big Beautiful Amish Courtship
Martha King has begun to think that she will never find a husband. Her problems with overeating began when her father died when she was young. Food was her comfort and her only friend. The more comfort she looked for, the bigger she got. She is the subject of constant barbs and whispers, she pretends she can’t hear it. But she does. Jacob Yonder decides that the wealthy young Martha would make an excellent match for his only son, the handsome Isaac. However, Isaac has had his sights firmly set another for many years. Yet his father won’t take no for an answer. When Martha runs into a mystery man from the past with his own self confidence issues everything in her world changes.

Here’s the blurb:

The Decision – When tragedy strikes, not only does Bethany’s whole life change, she learns that everything she thought she knew about her life was wrong.

Second Chances – Emma had the Amish life she always dreamed of, complete with the hope of courtship with the Amish man of her dreams. Things begin to change when a friend from the past returns to the Amish community.

Sweet Romance – If Mary and the widower Levi are going to get a chance to build a life together, Mary must win over his daughter, Naomi.

51W-r5F82RL._SX331_BO1,204,203,200_

Jenny Billings has been away from home for a long time, seeking out the world and all it has to offer. But then, tragedy occurs, shaking her to the core. Mark, the man who carried her away from her Amish life, is in a coma and she has nowhere to turn. Desperate, she boards a bus to a nearby Amish community in the hopes that she will find peace and friendship in the familiar environment.

In Sugar Creek, Ohio, Jenny finds more than she expected. The Smucker family is warm and welcoming although the handsome son Daniel finds her whole ‘seeker’ act rather suspicious. As her former life returns to her, Jenny finds working at their B&B both comforting and upsetting because she needs to hide her true identity. Daniel is alternately drawn to and wary of the stranger who claims to want to join their faith. She seems too comfortable among the People and he suspects that she is trying to worm her way into their lives for reasons other than what she says. He is determined to discover her secret.

Finally, through an unexpected friendship, Jenny finds that she can hide who she is no longer, but when she reveals herself, will she risk losing all she’s come to hold dear?

I hope you all found something to your liking! Enjoy! Soon, I’ll be announcing another new Amish book of my own! Have a delightful day. Drop me a line when you have time. I love to hear from you!

And as always, thanks for stopping by!

Welcome, Mindy Mymudes!

AuthorPhoto_TilliesTale

Greetings, Friends! A very warm welcome to fellow author Mindy Mymudes! We’re here today celebrating her book Tillie’s Tale! Mindy will be awarding a $25 Amazon or B/N Gift Card to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. (You can enter the rafflecopter near the end of this post!)

Here is the delightful cover to her book:

BookCover_TilliesTale

Here’s the blurb for you:

Who is the mysterious ghosty haunting puppygirl Tillie? And why? George, the magical basset hound familiar is on the trail.

It’s not often a basset hound puppy is haunted by an unhappy ghost, but George’s packmate, Tillie, manages to attract one. George and Tillie need to find out how to help the ghost before she turns into a poultry-ghost.

And here’s a fun little excerpt for you:

“Wrrrrttttle.”

Tillie’s tail is spinning in circles. She’s staring at a filmy thing sitting on the steps of an old, rough-brick building. I know it’s really a large Peeps’ den, but since it’s bad to be in the dog house, I assume it’s bad to be in a house. Why don’t they just call it a den if houses are so bad? From the smelltaste of cooking, Peeps, dust, skin, and the other stuff Peeps like, there are many small dens inside. Tillie “wrrrrrtttles” again and adds a soft “wuff.” Her front goes down into a play bow. The thing she’s trying to get to play is shimmery and clear, with thick and thin spots swimming on the surface.

“Snoof. Snuffle” I lick my lips. There’s a disturbing smelltaste of dustmoldlightningozone.

Oh mousefleas.

It’s a ghosty.

Today, I’m not only interviewing the author, but also George, the main character! (He’s the magical basset hound!) Have fun:

Where are you from?

Mindy: Originally, New York. I’ve been in Wisconsin for years, now.

George: My mom.

Tell us your latest news?

Mindy: I’m working on the third book of the Magical Drool series, Phoebe’s Pause. I’m also dog sitting whippets and retrievers. I suspect they’ll show up somewhere in the story.

George: <Raises a brow> If they weren’t in the story why do you think they’ll suddenly appear there? You seem to think you can dictate what’s in the story. You forget, it’s my life I’m dictating to you.

When and why did you begin writing?

Mindy: I think when most kids do, first grade or so. I wrote a poem called ‘If I was a raindrop’. It was actually about the water cycle. Which is weird. It won an award, though, which is why I remember it.

George: I don’t write, it’s beneath me. However, my story is important, so I hired my Secret-ary.

Mindy: Hire would imply I get money.

George: <Noses over a partially chewed rawhide bone>

Mindy: Bleah.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?

Mindy: Honestly, I don’t. It doesn’t feel like I’m an author. Maybe if I had an agent? It feels like I’m just telling a story.

George: You are. Mine.

What inspired you to write your first book?

Mindy: I wanted to remember my foster child, Joey, who had recently passed on, and our dog, Quark. The two of them were inseparable, and got into some interesting predicaments.

George: <Whimper> He’s Karly’s brother.

Do you have a specific writing style?

Mindy: I don’t think so. I sit down and write. There’s a loose outline, but generally I put down what I see in my head. Not quite a pantser. Not exactly a plotter.

George: Best way to show her what to put on the computer.

How did you come up with the title?

Mindy: George Knows

George: Tillie’s Tail gets into everything.

Mindy: And George thinks with his Nose.

The series is named for George’s magical drool.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Mindy: I was a teacher for a long time. Without hitting anyone over the head, I wanted to show how important history is. In the end, I want the story to be fun.

George: It’s meant to educate Peeps on how to understand and speak dog. If we have to understand you, then you need to understand us.

How much of the book is realistic?

Mindy: Many of the individual scenes are real things that my dogs have done. They were tied together by the mystery and fantasy.

George: <Huffs at Mindy> This is my life. It is all realistic.

Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

Mindy: In Tillie’s Tale, the story is about rescuing a ghost searching for something. Other than searching for my keys and phone very day, I can’t say that it’s anything I’ve experienced.

George:  I hate repeating myself, but it is my life.

What books have most influenced your life most?

Mindy: I think the science fiction I read as a kid led me to getting an advanced degree in biology. Brave New World is one that comes to mind. There were the Robert Heinlein books, Isaac Asimov, Anne McCaffrey. Not specific books, but authors who built intricate worlds.

George: I don’t need books. I have in stink.

Mindy: You sure do.

Thanks for putting up with us.  (Ha ha! My pleasure!)

Here’s an excerpt for your enjoyment!

“One kiss and now you believe you love this creature? Preposterous. I will not have it. She has you hexed. Bewitched from your right mind. That is the only reasonable explanation to account for such impudence. Such lusting can only be derived from dark magic. It seeps from her pores, can you not feel it?” Mab, the Queen of Air and Darkness surveyed me with cold disdain before refocusing her wrath on her son.

“I would never do that,” I blurted. “I’d never use magic to force someone into loving me.” Venus and I were very different that way.

Mab snarled. “Do not address me unless I have given you permission to do so,” she said. “I am the queen of this court. And you are nothing more than a whelp on the verge of losing her life.” Her cutting glare flicked back to her son. “I cannot allow this. You traipsing across lands following this…” she waved her hand in my direction. “It is madness. I prayed that after you’d taken a taste you would have been satisfied, satiated of such empty hollow carnal delights and moved on to saner tasks. Like serving your mother.”

“You removed me from your court, Mother. I no longer serve you,” Zanthiel replied evenly.

Mab’s voice lowered, and grew sickly sweet. “My darling, it was but to show you your love for me. Your loyalty lies within you still. It merely needed a subtle reminder.”

“By way of banning me from my home, and resigning me to live among thieves, shadows and the dead. It is an odd way of demonstrating motherly love.”

“There are many expectations of you. You cannot fulfill your duty with your mind blinded by your heart. This unhealthy obsession has you transfixed, Zanthiel. Can you not see? She has you immobilized.” Her voice grew louder and the rafters latterly shook. “And to what end?”

She looked at me, but I wasn’t certain she wanted me to answer, so I remained silent. I studied the chains enclosing Zanthiel’s hands and ankles. Could I break them open, dissolve them?

What if something went wrong, and I hurt him instead? No, it wasn’t the right time. I glanced over at her statuesque guards, their skin blue from decades of cold. Two of them were studying me with a vile mix of curiosity and hunger. One caught my eye and he ran a bloated tongue across his chaffed lips. My stomach turned over.

“I am hers for as long as she requires my assistance. It has always been that way. Fated by prophecy. You know this to be true, Mother.”

He was having trouble speaking and yet his expression held that same icy glare. By looking at him you’d never know what pain he was in. But I knew him on a deeper level. I was beginning to see through his façade, like a smokescreen of glamour, I saw behind the mask. The fear and loathing and the inexplicable suffering as the iron ate into his flesh like acid.

The queen’s eyes narrowed and grew impossibly colder. “Why have you come? Surely you did not expect a grand and hospitable welcome. What purpose drew you into my court to face imminent death? Do speak now, whelp,” she said with sudden impatience. “And know that if you are caught lying I will cut out your tongue and feed it to the trolls.”

I shuddered, having no doubt she actually would. “We have a… request.”

I glanced at Zanthiel, blood seeping from the iron chains binding his wrists and ankles. I couldn’t let him continue to suffer. The poison would eventually seep into his bloodstream and kill him.

Then she’d direct her wrath at me.I took a tentative step forward, not fully convinced I wouldn’t be cut down where I stood, for being so bold.

But she leaned back against her throne and tapped a broken fingernail impatiently. “You have my full attention. Come out with it. What is this request of which you speak?”

Welcome, Barbara Becker Holstein!

91cw+RmKDJL._SL1500_A warm welcome to fellow author, Barbara Becker Holstein! We’re here celebrating her tween book, The Truth, Diary of a Gutsy Tween!  The title alone invites interest!

If you’re intrigued – like I am – here’s the blurb:

“I hate Angela and I wish she would move away tomorrow!”

“I get so worried when I hear my parents fighting at night.”

“My mother thinks my crush is silly. I know I am in love!”

“I have so many questions about growing up. Who will answer them?”

“I feel so awful when Jake makes fun of me.”

“When I grow up I going to remember how to have fun with my kids and never look away.”

Growing up is tough. Adults don’t always understand you (even though they were once kids), and children today face increasing pressure to be, look, or act a certain way. Written in the voice of a girl on the cusp of becoming a teenager, The Truth provides young girls with an opportunity to see how a girl, who is in many ways like themselves, handles her toughest problems and most personal thoughts. Each new page brings forth a discussion to help girls handle everyday problems: How do you survive a bully? How do you handle a crush on a boy?

What can you do about relentless teasing by your peers? What really matters as you grow older? In a positive and supportive diary-entry format, Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein encourages tween girls to carry the most precious parts of themselves into adulthood. A great book for mothers and daughters to read together, The Truth is aimed to improve communication, understanding, and self-esteem for young girls as they enter the rocky road of teenager-dom.

And some fun news:

Barbara will be awarding $20 Amazon or B/N Gift Card to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. (Enter near the end of this post!)

Here’s an excerpt for you to enjoy:

Date: July 7

Dear Diary:

I feel so lonely. I can’t believe my parents made us move. Don’t they understand how awful it is for me? I don’t have anyone to share secrets with. I talk to Angela on the phone, but it isn’t the same. Sometimes when I’m on the phone with her I get the feeling that she is on her computer at the same time or maybe just thinking about other stuff. I don’t feel that closeness with her anymore. I want to feel it, but I don’t know how. I’m afraid to ask her if she is playing a game on the computer or chatting on Facebook at the same time as she’s on the phone with me.

The only good thing that happened is I asked Angela if she wants to send selfies back and forth to each other. My phone is old and I don’t have FaceTime, but I can still take pictures and send them to her. She loved the idea, so I spent hours yesterday sending her pictures of me in different rooms in my house and in the backyard, too. It was a lot of fun. I dressed up as if I was putting on a play and each room was a new scene. I wore a velvet scarf and one of my mom’s fancy hats and put on an old long petticoat I used to dress up in as a kid and then I went outside and stood on the swing that is hanging from a tree. It was hard to keep the swing still enough to get a good Selfie, but finally I did, and I sent it to Angela. She sent back a selfie of herself dressed up like a Flapper girl from the 1920s, posing with a long stick as if it was a cigarette in a holder. We laughed and laughed on the phone, and it was the best I have felt since we moved. The best part was that if felt like we were together again even though we are apart!

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

I have been a positive psychologist in private practice for the past thirty years. In the course of working with my clients, I originated the idea of THE ENCHANTED SELF(R), a positive psychology therapy where I teach people how to recognize and utilize their strengths, talents, skills and even lost potential. I have developed a number of methods, including using our memories to rediscover what is right about ourselves and our lives, rather than what went wrong, helping people to overcome adversity, experience positive emotions and live the good life!

Since developing this concept, I’ve been able to use many tools to bring the Enchanted Self to everyone, particularly women and girls. I’ve written many books, starting with THE ENCHANTED SELF, A Positive Therapy, and then Recipes for Enchantment, The Secret Ingredient is YOU! My books for girls are very popular, as they are great fictional reads and also help deal with many of the questions that trouble kids as they move into the tween and teen years. The Truth, Diary of a Gutsy Tween and Secrets, Diary of a Gutsy Teen are the first two books in this series.

I really love to teach and educate about happiness and how to benefit from positive psychology in ways that let us lead lives of meaning and happiness. You can find me all over the place on the web. Random Acts of Kindness Day

images

Greetings, Friends!  Happy Random Acts of Kindness Day!

I have to confess that I didn’t even know there was a dedicated day for random acts of kindness. My mind is whirling now with possibilities of what I can do today to surprise and hopefully delight some of the people in my life.

To help all of us get in the mood, here are a few quotes on kindness:

  • Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the and the blind can see. ~Mark Twain
  • No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. ~Aesop
  • Remember there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end. ~Scott Adams
  • Kind words and actions can seem so small, but their effects are truly endless. ~ Author Unknown

I learned that The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation is an internationally recognized non-profit organization founded upon the powerful belief in kindness and dedicated to providing resources and tools that encourage acts of kindness.

This special day originated in New Zealand, where it is celebrated on September 1st. It is recognized by others on various days throughout the year; however, doing random acts of kindness is something that can be done everyday of the year.

May you have an amazing day of kindness today! Thank you for being the wonderful people that you are! I’m sending happy, kind thoughts your way! I am grateful for you!

Let me know what you decide to do today or how kindness has affected your life! I love hearing from you!

And as always, thanks for stopping by!

Brenda

P.S. Tiff sure could have used some kindness in The Return. Nothing was turning out the way she’d hoped.
